Department V: Online and Distance Learning
The Department V is tasked with developing online and distance learning concepts and strategies and implementing the tools and infrastructure required in support of the Church's growth and improvement processes in structure, competences and practical work.
The Protestant Centre for Distance Learning (Evangelische Arbeitsstelle Fernstudium) develops and offers distance learning programmes tailored to personal competence growth and qualification in all fields of Church endeavour. Its primary purpose is to raise the level of professionalism in all fields of Church work by providing learning opportunities independent of time and venue. Alongside structured courses, it also offers individual modules on topics in theology, education, parish and community work, and classical languages. Both professionals and volunteers are invited to make use of these facilities.

rpi-virtuell is the internet platform on religious education in and outside school. It was developed by the EKD (Evangelical Church in Germany) to offer professionals in the field the opportunity to collate materials, exchange experience and knowledge with colleagues, and access virtual spaces for structuring cooperative ventures.
